Cactus Wren~ Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus
One of the best known (and noisiest) birds of the American southwest, the Cactus Wren is also North America's largest wren (almost the size of an American Robin). These desert dwellers prefer to nest in prickly Cholla cactus or spiky-leaved Yucca plants, and can be found hopping around on the hot desert ground in a typical wren-like fashion while foraging for bits of food. Favorites include cactus fruit, berries, and insects. This feisty wren is also the state bird of Arizona.
