Venezuelan Troupial~ Icterus icterus
Native to Venezuela, Columbia, and the Caribbean Islands, this neotropic oriole is closely related to the migrant orioles we see in North America every summer. The Venezuelan Troupial inhabits dry areas like woodlands, dry scrub, plains, and open savannas. This omnivorous bird is also the national bird of Venezuela. The original reference photograph was taken by me at the Columbia Zoo in South Carolina April of 2018. These birds are beautifully bright and curious in-person!
