Indigo Bunting ~ Passerina cyaneaThe Indigo Bunting breeds throughout eastern North America and southern Canada, while spending it’s winters in Central America, the Caribbean, and south Florida. During their first summer, young Indigo Buntings begin learning how to navigate using the stars in the night sky. From the nest, they gauge direction using the pattern of stars nearest the North Star, or a fixed point in the sky. This prepares them for later Fall and Spring migrations.
