Greater Roadrunner~ Geococcyx californianus
A member of the cuckoo family, the Greater Roadrunner inhabits desert areas of the American southwest and western Mexico.  It prefers to stay on the ground where it chases prey at up to 20 mph!  Favorite food items include insects, small rodents, and even rattlesnakes.  This iconic bird is also the state bird of New Mexico.
