Little Blue Heron~ Egretta caerulea
A small heron that breeds in the southeastern US and the Caribbean south to Peru and Uruguay.  It lives year-round on the coast of Florida and the gulf states, as well as most of coastal South America.  While adult Little Blue Herons are actually blue, young juveniles are pure white (as seen in the sketch).  The original photograph that inspired this sketch was taken at the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, FL in January 2017.  Little Blue Herons of varying ages wandered the refuge, including this juvenile who was hunting among the rocks on a marshy shoreline.
