Turk's Cap Lily~ Lilium superbum
This beautiful orange lily is a common sight throughout June and into early July along forest service roads in the Appalachian Mountains and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The name comes from the close resemblance of this flower to caps worn by ancient Turks. This is a favorite of butterflies such as the Pipevine Swallowtail and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail.
