Who’s Ready for Spring?!

It’s been a seemingly endless, bitter cold winter. As I walk around our yard here in middle-ish Georgia, I notice all sorts of signs that Springtime is FINALLY settling over the land.

The Smelly Bradford Pear trees have been blooming now for the past 2-3 weeks. Nearly all the flowers have turned to leaves.

Though non-native and invasive (and definitely not my choice of tree had I the chance to pick what was originally planted here), they are quite beautiful this time of year.

My white hyacinths have come back from last year! This was a pleasant surprise. The local neighborhood daffodils also started to bloom about 3 weeks ago.

In anticipation of our first hummingbirds of the season, I have already put out two of their feeders. A few males began arriving last year around March 28th. Hoping they follow a similar migration schedule this year.

The Yellow-Rumped Warblers have just barely begun to get their darker breeding plumage. It’s usually well into spring that they begin the long journey to their northern breeding grounds. We were disappointed this year to not get a visit from either of our Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers.

Our two winter juncos still hang around our backyard. When they leave for their breeding grounds, it may only be to the north Georgia mountains. We are always happy to visit the juncos when we hike up in that area during summer!

That’s about all for now. Next time, I’ll share some of my gardening projects that are well underway. SO ready for moon flowers to adorn our backyard fence and scent the warm summer air with their beautiful floral scent!
